Compliance FAQ

How much does DOT reinstatement cost?

The fixed piece is the $80 FMCSA reinstatement fee (49 CFR §360.3T(f)(52)). The rest depends on what caused the revocation: an insurance lapse means bringing coverage current with your insurer, a BOC-3 lapse means a fresh BOC-3 filing, and a safety-rating recovery means corrective-action work before FMCSA's review. Fast Trucking Compliance's prices are itemized. DOT out-of-service reinstatement: $200 service fee, no FMCSA fee. MC authority reinstatement: $220 service fee + $80 FMCSA fee = $300 total.

Why does it matter?

The FMCSA reinstatement fee is a flat $80 under 49 CFR §360.3T(f)(52), paid when the reinstatement request is filed. It is the same $80 for motor carriers (MC), motor carriers of household goods (MX), brokers (MC-B), and freight forwarders (MC-FF) - the authority type does not change the fee.

Insurance lapse cure: the cost of bringing the policy current or binding a new one, set by your insurer. If the policy was paid through the gap and the certificate simply wasn't filed, the fix may be a new filing from the insurer rather than a new policy.

BOC-3 lapse cure: a fresh BOC-3 filed with FMCSA by a registered process-agent provider.

MCS-150: FMCSA charges no fee to file the biennial update. A missed MCS-150 leads to USDOT deactivation (49 CFR 390.19T(b)(4)), fixed by filing the update. FMCSA has temporarily suspended enforcement and USDOT inactivation for biennial updates due on or after June 1, 2026; the update is still required.

Safety-rating recovery: the cost depends on the corrective actions needed (driver qualification files, maintenance records, drug-and-alcohol program) and varies by fleet.

We prepare your reinstatement request; it is submitted to FMCSA by you or a filer you authorize. FMCSA charges an $80 fee to reinstate revoked MC operating authority (49 CFR 360.3T). For MC reinstatement, our $220 service fee and the $80 FMCSA fee are itemized as two separate amounts before you pay ($300 total). DOT out-of-service reinstatement is a $200 service fee with no FMCSA fee.
