Authority reinstatement: USDOT and MC recovery
Authority reinstatement starts with identifying why the record became inactive, revoked or out of service. USDOT reactivation and MC operating-authority reinstatement are different processes. Resolve the underlying issue, submit the appropriate request and confirm the resulting status before resuming operations.

Check the record before choosing a filing
Compare the USDOT status, operating-authority status and the notice that caused the restriction. An inactive USDOT record may require an MCS-150 series update. Revoked operating authority requires a separate reinstatement request. A federal out-of-service order must be addressed according to its terms; paying a fee alone does not lift it.
DOT out-of-service assistance and MC reinstatement fees
DOT out-of-service reinstatement assistance is $200 in service fees. MC authority reinstatement is $300 total: $220 service fee plus the $80 FMCSA reinstatement fee. Insurance premiums, required coverage and other corrective work are separate. The appropriate process depends on the reason for the restriction, and agency approval is required.
How authority reinstatement works
Gather your USDOT and MC numbers, legal business identity, revocation or out-of-service notice, current registration details and evidence that the underlying issue has been corrected. Review the current FMCSA record before requesting reinstatement. Keep the request, payment receipt and agency correspondence together so you can respond to any follow-up.
