Compliance FAQ
Can I reinstate a revoked MC after 1 year?
Often, if the cause is cured. The reinstatement request goes through Motus with the $80 FMCSA reinstatement fee (49 CFR §360.3T(f)(52)), the insurer's BMC-91/91X filing on record, a current BOC-3, and anything else the revocation cause requires (for example, paid civil penalties). Whether an older authority can still be reinstated is FMCSA's decision for that record; if it can't, a new application is required.

Why does it matter?
FMCSA decides whether an older revoked authority can still be reinstated. If the answer is no, the path is a new application.
The reinstatement package includes: (1) the reinstatement request through Motus, (2) the $80 FMCSA reinstatement fee (49 CFR §360.3T(f)(52)), (3) the insurer's BMC-91 or BMC-91X filing at the 49 CFR §387.9 minimums, (4) a current BOC-3 process-agent designation, (5) anything addressing the original revocation cause (corrective action for safety revocations, payment for unpaid penalties), and (6) a current MCS-150 update if the carrier's information has changed.
For revocations caused by routine lapses (insurance, BOC-3, unpaid penalties), the carrier fixes the cause and the reinstatement request can then be submitted to FMCSA; FMCSA controls the timing. Revocations tied to safety ratings or failed new-entrant audits take longer because they depend on an FMCSA review of corrective action.
If FMCSA won't reinstate the old authority, the path is a new application in Motus, which issues a new MC number. A new application goes through FMCSA's new-applicant review, including the 10-day protest period after the FMCSA Register notice (49 CFR 365.203T); FMCSA controls the timing.
Start your reinstatement request
We prepare your reinstatement request; it is submitted to FMCSA by you or a filer you authorize. FMCSA charges an $80 fee to reinstate revoked MC operating authority (49 CFR 360.3T). For MC reinstatement, our $220 service fee and the $80 FMCSA fee are itemized as two separate amounts before you pay ($300 total). DOT out-of-service reinstatement is a $200 service fee with no FMCSA fee.
