Compliance FAQ

How fast can I get my MC reactivated after revocation?

It depends on the cause and on FMCSA. The reinstatement request can be submitted once the underlying cause is fixed (insurance or BOC-3 on file, penalties paid), and FMCSA controls how long its review takes. Safety-rating recovery takes the longest because it depends on corrective action and an FMCSA review.

Why does it matter?

Insurance-lapse reinstatement: once new insurance is bound, the insurer files the BMC-91 or BMC-91X with FMCSA. Once the cure is on record, the reinstatement request can be submitted to FMCSA, and FMCSA controls how long its review takes.

BOC-3 lapse: once the new BOC-3 designation is on file with FMCSA, the reinstatement can be submitted. You can confirm the filings through FMCSA's Motus public search (by USDOT number or company name).

Missed MCS-150: A missed MCS-150 leads to USDOT deactivation (49 CFR 390.19T(b)(4)), fixed by filing the update. FMCSA has temporarily suspended enforcement and USDOT inactivation for biennial updates due on or after June 1, 2026; the update is still required. FMCSA charges no fee for the MCS-150 itself.

Safety-rating recovery (Conditional or Unsatisfactory): the carrier documents corrective action and asks FMCSA for a rating change under 49 CFR 385.17. FMCSA controls how long that review takes.

FMCSA reinstates operating authority, or lifts an out-of-service order, only after the cause is cured (for example, insurance or a BOC-3 back on file, or a civil penalty paid) and it reviews the request. FMCSA controls that decision and its timing; no filing service can promise that authority will be reinstated.

Start your reinstatement request

We prepare your reinstatement request; it is submitted to FMCSA by you or a filer you authorize. FMCSA charges an $80 fee to reinstate revoked MC operating authority (49 CFR 360.3T). For MC reinstatement, our $220 service fee and the $80 FMCSA fee are itemized as two separate amounts before you pay ($300 total). DOT out-of-service reinstatement is a $200 service fee with no FMCSA fee.
