Involuntary Revocation
Also known as: Involuntary Revocation of Authority

Definition
Involuntary revocation is a revocation FMCSA imposes as an enforcement consequence, not at the registrant’s request. Typical triggers are an insurance lapse, a missing BOC-3 or an unpaid civil penalty. It contrasts with voluntary revocation, which the carrier requests. Undoing an involuntary revocation means curing the cause and requesting reinstatement, with the $80 FMCSA reinstatement fee for MC authority, whereas a voluntary surrender often requires a new operating-authority application instead. FMCSA reinstates the authority only after the cause is cured and it reviews the request; it controls that decision and its timing.
