Revocation

Also known as: Authority Revocation, Registration Revocation

By Korey Sharp-Paar · Reviewed by the Fast Trucking Compliance team

Definition

Revocation is FMCSA’s withdrawal of a carrier’s operating authority or registration, typically for lapsed insurance, a missing BOC-3, a failed new-entrant safety audit or an unresolved enforcement matter. It is more serious than the administrative deactivation a missed MCS-150 can cause. A USDOT number deactivated for a missed biennial update is addressed by filing the overdue update, while a revocation requires resolving the underlying cause and going through reinstatement, and may require a new registration. Checking the public FMCSA record by USDOT number shows which status applies.
