Compliance FAQ

How fast does the MCS-150 process at FMCSA?

FMCSA controls when the update shows in its records. MCS-150 updates are made online in Motus (motus.dot.gov). A filing service can prepare the update, but it does not change how FMCSA processes it.

Why does it matter?

Motus (motus.dot.gov) handles the electronic flow: the carrier signs in with Login.gov, submits the MCS-150, FMCSA validates the fields, and the carrier record is updated. FMCSA controls when the update shows in its records, and timing can vary while the Motus transition continues.

An update prepared by a third-party filing service goes through the same FMCSA system as a direct carrier submission. We prepare your MCS-150 update; it is submitted to FMCSA in Motus by you or a filer you authorize. The service handles preparation; it does not change FMCSA-side processing.

A common misconception: paying for "expedited MCS-150 filing" changes FMCSA processing. It does not - any extra fee is for the service's own preparation, not for FMCSA-side processing.
