What if my USDOT was deactivated for missing MCS-150?

File the overdue MCS-150 with current information. FMCSA controls when the update shows in its records. A carrier with a deactivated USDOT number can't operate until the update is filed.

Why does it matter?

A missed biennial update can lead to civil penalties and deactivation of the USDOT number (49 CFR 390.19T(b)(4)). FMCSA has temporarily suspended enforcement and USDOT inactivation for biennial updates due on or after June 1, 2026; the update is still required. Deactivation applies to the USDOT number; the carrier record still exists, but its status shows as inactive in FMCSA's records. You can check the status in FMCSA's Motus public search by USDOT number or company name.

Recovery is the same as a regular biennial filing: file MCS-150 with current information (vehicles, mileage, address, all material changes since last filing). FMCSA controls when the update shows in its records.

MCS-150 updates are made online in Motus (motus.dot.gov) with a Login.gov sign-in linked to your USDOT number. If you would rather not do it yourself, a filing service can help. We prepare your MCS-150 update; it is submitted to FMCSA in Motus by you or a filer you authorize.
