MCS-150 filing for overdue and deactivated carriers
Reviewed by Korey Sharp-Paar · Updated
Your MCS-150 biennial update is past due, and your USDOT may already be flagged or deactivated. We prepare your MCS-150 update; it is submitted to FMCSA in Motus by you or a filer you authorize. The service fee is $175. FMCSA controls when the update shows in its records.
What “overdue” means
FMCSA requires every motor carrier with an active USDOT to file the MCS-150 Biennial Update every 24 months under 49 CFR §390.19T. The cadence is keyed to the last two digits of the USDOT - the last digit sets the due month, and odd-next-to-last-digit carriers file in odd-numbered years, even-next-to-last-digit in even-numbered years. The update is due by the last day of that month. A missed biennial update can lead to civil penalties and deactivation of the USDOT number (49 CFR 390.19T(b)(4)). FMCSA has temporarily suspended enforcement and USDOT inactivation for biennial updates due on or after June 1, 2026; the update is still required.
You can check your status in FMCSA's Motus public search by USDOT number or company name. After the overdue update is submitted, FMCSA controls when the update shows in its records. See our how-to-file MCS-150 walkthrough for the substantive flow and the late-filing FAQ for FMCSA-side detail.
