Definition
Insurance reinstatement is getting an active BMC-91 or BMC-91X public-liability filing back on record with FMCSA after a lapse. The carrier’s insurer files a new or reinstated certificate; FMCSA will not restore active operating authority while its record shows the insurance cancelled. It is the first step in curing the most common revocation cause, and it has to be on record before a reinstatement request can succeed. The insurance premium is paid to the insurer and is separate from the FMCSA reinstatement fee and from any filing-service fee.
