OP-1(FF)

Also known as: Freight Forwarder Application, OP-1(FF) Application

By Korey Sharp-Paar · Reviewed by the Fast Trucking Compliance team

Definition

OP-1(FF) is the FMCSA application a freight forwarder completes to obtain FF operating authority, with the same $300 FMCSA fee as the standard OP-1. A freight forwarder assembles and consolidates shipments and assumes carrier responsibility for them, usually tendering the line haul to motor carriers. Like the motor-carrier application, the OP-1(FF) publishes in the FMCSA Register as a preliminary grant once accepted, and the applicant’s BOC-3 and public-liability insurance must be on file within 20 days of that notice (49 CFR §365.109T) before FMCSA grants the authority.
