Definition
A docket number is the FMCSA case or registration number assigned to an operating-authority grant, prefixed by type: MC for motor carriers and property brokers, FF for freight forwarders, and MX for Mexico-domiciled carriers. The docket number is the "MC number" carriers cite on load boards and broker packets. One company can hold more than one docket - for example, both carrier and broker authority - and each operating authority type carries its own $300 FMCSA application fee (49 CFR 360.3T). The docket is separate from the USDOT number, which identifies the company for safety tracking and is free.
