UCR Enforcement

Also known as: Roadside Enforcement

By Korey Sharp-Paar · Reviewed by the Fast Trucking Compliance team

Definition

UCR enforcement is how UCR compliance is checked: state troopers and commercial-vehicle inspectors verify a carrier's current-year UCR against the national database at roadside inspections and weigh stations, primarily in participating states. The consequences of a missing UCR are set by each state. Enforcement for a registration year begins January 1. FMCSA does not directly revoke MC or USDOT authority for a missed UCR. State fines for operating without a valid UCR are separate from the UCR fee itself, which still must be paid, and there is no separate federal late penalty.

UCR Violation Penalties & Fines by State

UCR violations are enforced by the participating states under their own laws. Any citation, fine, or court costs are separate from the unpaid UCR fee itself.
