MCS-150 Mileage Reporting

Also known as: Annual Mileage, VMT, Vehicle Miles Traveled

By Korey Sharp-Paar · Reviewed by the Fast Trucking Compliance team

Definition

MCS-150 mileage reporting is the total miles a carrier’s vehicles traveled in the most recent full calendar year, reported on the MCS-150 along with that year. FMCSA uses mileage as an exposure measure in its safety methodology, so the figure should reflect actual operations rather than a guess; fleets often pull it from IFTA quarterly returns or dispatch records. The MCS-150 asks for one total figure for FMCSA identification purposes. It is separate from the jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction mileage carriers track for IRP apportionment and IFTA fuel tax.
