How long does it take to get MC authority?
FMCSA controls the timing. After FMCSA publishes your application in the FMCSA Register, a 10-day protest period runs (49 CFR 365.203T). FMCSA grants the authority once that period has passed and your BOC-3 process-agent designation and BMC-91 insurance are on file - both are due within 20 days of the Register notice (49 CFR 365.109T).

Why does it matter?
FMCSA's review can't be expedited. What you can control is whether your BOC-3 and BMC-91 are on file promptly, so nothing on your side holds the grant up.
Common delays: insurance binding, BMC-91 filer error, or a BOC-3 process agent that hasn't completed your blanket designation. You can check your authority status in FMCSA's Motus public search by USDOT number or company name.
