Compliance FAQ
What if I missed a prior year UCR filing?
You can still file a prior-year UCR registration. The federal fee is the same as it would have been on time - there is no federal late fee - but the participating states that enforce UCR may apply their own consequences.

Why does it matter?
The UCR is a federal-state coordinated registration program under 49 USC §14504a. The federal layer does not impose direct late fees - the registration is either current or it isn't. Enforcement is by the participating states, and the consequences are set by each state.
For carriers with unpaid prior-year UCR, the recovery path is straightforward: file each missing year through the National Registration System, pay the standard fee for the relevant tier, and confirm the registrations show in the system.
FMCSA does not directly revoke MC or USDOT authority for a missed UCR.
