MC (Motor Carrier) is the FMCSA docket assigned to for-hire carriers, freight brokers, and freight forwarders who operate in interstate commerce. It's how the FMCSA tracks who has operating authority. MC numbers are up to 8 digits, usually prefixed "MC-". Brokers and shippers routinely verify a carrier by MC number before moving a load.
